KOTA KINABALU: A hotpot cooker exploded last night injuring four people including two children at a steamboat eatery.
The Fire and Rescue department received a call at 9.06pm on the incident at Bu Zainah Conner at Alam Mesra near here.
"Before the rescue team arrived at the scene, those at the eatery had sent the two children to the hospital.
"The two injured adults, Wujon Maria Mae and Roberto Antoni, were treated by Health Ministry personnel at the scene before being taken to hospital," it said in a statement.
Meanwhile, in Kota Marudu, two people were injured when their house at Kampung Bombong 1 was destroyed in a fire last night.
In the 11.50pm incident, Jaison Masiwol, 49 and his wife Julimah Sabia, 45, suffered burns and were taken to the district hospital for treatment.
District Fire and Rescue chief Rony Sikawan said they received a distress call at 11.52pm and a six-man team was deployed to the scene.
He said preliminary information suggested that the fire could have started from the kitchen.
"Both victims were aware of the fire when their child woke them up," he said, adding that the operation ended at 1am.
