KUALA LUMPUR: Despite of the oil price hike, Federation of Malaysian Consumers Association (FOMCA) urges the people to use their power as consumers to ensure the effectiveness of the price reduction campaign initiated by the government to check excessive profiteering by suppliers.

FOMCA Vice President, Mohd Yusof Abdul Rahman says, we need to be serious about suppliers or retailers who refuse to comply or join the campaign in making sure that consumers interests are looked after.

As the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) celebrates its tenth anniversary on 27 February 2015, Consumer International's Head of Advocacy Justin Macmullan makes the case for coordinated global action on diet-related diseases.

Consumers International (CI) is very proud of the role we played in supporting the passage of the FCTC, and the work that many CI Members continue to do to support its implementation in their own countries.

Tobacco still kills 6 million people a year so there is still a lot more to be done, particularly in low and middle income countries where 80% of the world’s one billion smokers are living.

THEY are known as the silent killers. The plethora of non-communicable diseases (NCD) creeping into our society must surely be cause for grave concern.

But it is not a new phenomenon. It is a problem that many developed and developing countries have to struggle with as increased prosperity brings about lifestyle changes that come with unhealthy ramifications.

The statistics that emerged from the 300,000-plus employees who went for the Socso free health screening do not reveal the whole picture.

KUALA LUMPUR 22 Feb. – Persatuan Pengguna Islam Malaysia (PPIM) mahu industri telekomunikasi didisiplinkan dan dipantau rapi oleh Suruhanjaya Komunikasi dan Multimedia Malaysia (SKMM) bagi melindungi pengguna daripada dibebankan dengan caj berlebihan.

PPIM dalam satu kenyataan memaklumkan, gesaan ini supaya pengguna tidak terus teraniaya kerana perlu membayar pelbagai perkhidmatan yang tidak diperlukan seperti mana aduan yang sering dikemukakan kepada pihaknya.

KUALA LUMPUR 22 Feb. - Kementerian Kesejahteraan Bandar, Perumahan dan Kerajaan Tempatan bercadang untuk mewujudkan Skim Jaminan Perumahan dalam usaha melindungi pembeli rumah daripada risiko terperangkap dengan projek perumahan terbengkalai.

Menterinya, Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan berkata, mekanisme berkenaan telah dipratikkan di Korea Selatan serta memperlihatkan keberkesanannya menerusi aspek pengurangan kes rumah terbengkalai sekali gus mengurangkan kesengsaraan pembeli rumah.

“Secara ringkas skim ini adalah pembeli akan dilindungi dengan insurans dan sekiranya ada projek yang terbengkalai maka pembeli berkenaan akan menerima pampasan yang sesuai.
